Abstract

Robotic-arm assisted partial knee arthroplasty (RA-PKA) is the designation for the unicompartmental knee arthroplasty (UKA) procedures performed using the MAKO robotic orthopedic system currently available for use in the USA and internationally. Arthroplasty procedures performed using this system have been commonly referred to as “Makoplasty®” procedures. The first procedures for the knee were performed on the medial compartment in June of 2006 [1]. Over the last 9 years, the procedures being offered using this platform have expanded to include the lateral compartment [2-5], patellofemoral compartment, and total hip replacement.
