Abstract

This chapter explains the origins of the research study and how its scope developed. This includes a description of the local social and geographical context, with an analysis of the impact these had on the schools involved. It describes how each school worked with girls and how this was judged to have affected their educational achievement. The chapter concludes with an account of the research approach and data collection methods, covering the focus of each set of interviews and the associated ethical considerations.
