Abstract

This paper describes the experience with PROTOTYPING at the Computing Center of the Danish Savings Banks (SDC). SDC performs the data processing for 99% of the savings banks in Denmark and uses 3 mainframes, one IBM 3083, one Amdahl V/8 and one Amdahl 580/5860. The remotely located hardware consists of 1,070 Datasaab D5 mini computers allocated to 2,480 teller and back office terminals and 810 telephone terminals. The benefits are: Users are better involved in the application systems design at an early stage; the application system requires much less maintenance, because the application already has included needs which, by other methods, would have been postponed, and the PROTOTYPE acts as a common language between users, designers, and others.
