Nuclear power supplies 20% of the US electrical grid and 16% of the global grid. The US 102 nuclear plants are located at 64 sites in 31 states, led by Illinois, Pennsylvania and South Carolina. The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has received 24 applications for new plants, but many of these are in abeyance because the price of natural gas dropped from 13/MBtu in 2008 to $2–4/MBtu in 2013.
