Abstract

My mother was born in the United States of an American father and a Russian mother of German/Jewish ancestry: my grandmother’s name was Schinder. My maternal grandparents traded with Russia at the beginning of the century. Trade prospered between the two countries even after the Revolution. They specialized in the import/export of musical instruments.
