Abstract

High Volume Air Sampler ( HVAS ) is a particulate samplers equipment in ambient air which has the working principle of the vacuum system by pulling environment air through the selective- size inlet and through filters measuring 20.3 x 25.4 cm ( 8 " x 10 " ) at a flow rate of 1,132 liters / min. As US-EPA (United States – Environmental Protection Agency) Standard often used to meet the sampling tool has a huge form about 45.5" x 22.5" x 20" and weigh about 15-20 kg, which raised the ideaof research to make design modifications ambient particulate sampling tool with a more flexible, lightweight and compact storage using the test method Gravimetry. The initialphase of this research was identify HVAS standard equipment and regulations governing particulate testing. Then modify the outer shape (minimize) without changing the existing functionality in it and tested its performance simultaneously.The trial results processed using statistics. By using EPA standard high volume air samplers identified results, the importance of the design modified HVAS main unit portable with dimensions of 15.35 "x 15.35" x 10 "(LxWxH), knockdown feet along the 4.5" of as many as 12 pieces 4x4cm hollow, and has total weight of approximately 23 lbs / 10.58 kg.
