Abstract

About 12% of China's total land area is classified as reclaimable waste. Land improvement and reclamation in the village of Tachai in Shansi province is used to illustrate the achievemants in a hilly area which was subject to severe problems of soil erosion. By way of contrast, a multi-purpose program of the Yangtze River Valley is also considered. -Mark Shaw
