Abstract

The article presents problems of data extraction and transmission as a parts of ETL process based on Oracle database example. Taking into attention more and more widespread cloud computing technologies it must be noticed that bandwidth of data links could be a serious limitation nowadays. The article describes technologies useful for data extraction in xml format from Oracle database. Further, the comparison of different methods taking into account both efficiency and volume of data to be transmitted, is presented. Finally several proposals on tuning these parts of ETL process are developed. The purpose of the article is to point the most efficient way of data extraction in XML format for Oracle database according to any existing nonfunctional requirements such us software portability, bandwidth limitation etc. © Springer International Publishing Switzerland 2014.
