Abstract

This article is centred on the place of language in sublimation and shows that it is through language that sublimation is intrinsically and inevitably cultural, in the sense that it implies creativity, which precisely distinguishes it from both repression and idealisation. In this perspective, the author here analyses the textual practices of Colette and Proust, considers the question of modern culture and examines the role of women, more particularly of maternity, in contesting the Freudian position according to which women are " little suited " to " drive sublimations ".
