Abstract

The rotor windings of large generator are usually cooled by hydrogen flowing through ducts within the winding. The gap-pickup diagonal flow ventilation system has been widely employed because of its shorter cooling channels and lower temperature rise. The gas flow in the ventilation channels is maintained by the pressure difference between the inlet wedge and the outlet wedge, and the pickup capability of rotor wedge directly influences the cooling condition of the gap-pickup diagonal flow system. To obtain the rule of the interaction of wedge's pickup capability and the pickup coefficient of wedges with different structure, a static modeling experiment for the gap-pickup diagonal flow system in the turbine generator rotors has been carried out. The experimental results showed the interaction of wedge's pickup capability in gap-pickup diagonal ventilation system. The experimental results of the pickup coefficient of wedges with different structure will be reported in another paper[1].
