Abstract

Chhabra explains how the US's polio eradication program in India has the potential to repair its image abroad. By employing non-state actors, engaging civil society, and rebuilding American relations with Muslims, GPEI's (Global Polio Eradication Initiative) collaborative efforts put a positive face on the US, underscoring its desire to build friendships and work toward universal causes, such as health. Through collaboration, engagement, and a grassroots-level dialogue, then, GPEI's polio eradication efforts offer the US a promising way to exercise its soft power.
