In the foregoing chapters, the major ways in which solutes and water are reabsorbed and secreted along the nephron are reviewed. In this chapter, the data are summarized. However, although an attempt has been made to relate the amounts of sodium and water absorbed to the GFR in humans, the data for the segmental absorptions are determined by micropuncture techniques which cannot be used in man and the figures presented must therefore be regarded as approximations.
