Abstract

Interventional radiology involves minimally invasive medical procedures that are performed with the aid of imaging modality, for example, fluoroscopy, CT, or US with an aim to treat or aid diagnosis. This modality has a growing demand in various parts of the human body. With advances in medical equipment technology and imaging, this has facilitated the development of new treatment options and allowed refinements in existing techniques to make established procedures safer, cost-effective, decrease the length of hospital stay, and in some cases lessen postsurgical complications. Ultrasonography is an imaging modality which is safe as there is no radiation involvement making it a suitable modality to be used for a variety of intervention procedures especially in the head and neck region. It is user friendly, fast, cost-effective, with the capability of real-time imaging. It is safe for the operator, the patient, and their carer. This chapter introduces the usage of ultrasound in various interventional procedures which has been performed routinely in a dental maxillofacial region.
