Abstract

After the Parasite Law,1 Vera I. remarked to me in a caustic tone of voice, “Vera P., I never see your husband go off to work.” With good reason, he was a painter and worked in the rooms that we occupied in the apartment. But when he answered that he was preparing sketches for Poster Publications—a political publisher—she got scared and despite her jealousy, didn’t dare interfere.
