Abstract

In the generic so called Spain of the Golden Age, one of the bitterest intellectual debates was one about the dignity and the truth of the Historiography. It followed in those time the path of a literary genre and tried to change itself into a science, although political. It was not an easy and quick change. During many generations, there were different battles among historians. Some of them were severe guardians of a documented critic, but many others were fantasizer and many shameless swindlers. The crowd lined themselves up into one of those groups according their interests or illusions. One of the most successful was Román de la Higuera. But in the period of the Novatores and the Age of Enlightenment, it turns to be a patriotic or national cause, not merely academic. The historical Regenerationism was an important step in our literature and our humanities in general.
