Abstract

This book is designed to inform a wide range of current and future professionals about the assistive technology used by visually impaired and blind people to achieve independence and social inclusiveness in the home and the wider community. Basic engineering principles are explained and the ways these are used to develop and drive assistive technology applications for visually impaired and blind people described. The volume has some chapters that refer to a generic comprehensive assistive technologymodel to capture the essentials of the applied systemand this model should find applications in other assistive technology areas.
