The acquisition of knowledge of spatial form and processes requires several axioms and assumptions to be agreed. These relate to the place of man within his environment and the nature of knowledge itself. In order to understand reality the individual must become aware that he himself creates that reality by imposing his own and received constructions on the outside chaos. Geographers cannot determine what is outside themselves without examining these constructions and the process by which experience becomes reality. -J.Welford
