To identify the knowledge of nurses in regards to sleep, as well as putting in place activities that improve it. These aspects are considered in this investigation carried out in the Infanta Elena Hospital in Huelva, Spain. An observational, descriptive, cross-sectional study was carried out, using a survey elaborated by the investigative team, which was given to these professionals. The information was treated through the program SPSS for analysis. As results we emphasize that 75 % of the nurses identify both phases of sleep, but the steps along the NREM and REM are not clear for 55,4 %. A percentage of 57,4 % thinks that a person who wakes up in some phase, when they return to sleep have to begin with phase I of NREM sleep, as if they were initiating rest. Nevertheless 56,9 % affirms that this does not imply that the person could not rest. To assure a number of hours of sufficient sleep is considered to be important for rest. Nevertheless, due to the reasons above mentioned and because the nurses were not clear about whether or not waking often causes that the regeneration of energy cannot be completed, lead us to think that the nurses lack knowledge of sleep.
