Abstract

This text is a critical contribution to the field of residential treatment for adolescents, as well as wilderness and adventure therapy, and can help practitioners, researchers, parents, educational consultants, and mental health professionals understand the critical role that families play in the treatment of adolescents. Virtually all adolescent and young adult treatment programs, to varying degrees, approach treatment from a family systems perspective. The editors have done a wonderful job weaving research and practical advice into the volume that forms a perfect complement to existing texts in the field. This book is literally a treasure trove of perspectives, strategies, and novel approaches to working with families in traditional residential treatment settings and Outdoor Behavioral Healthcare programs. The book and chapters herein tell a story that is both compelling and informative, and is a must read for professionals and stakeholders in the field.
