Abstract

A new trap, the “pit‐light”, which combines features of a light trap and a pitfall trap is described. The pit‐light captures a wide range of insect species that move over the soil surface and selects against the mass of sundry flying insects captured by conventional light traps. The number of specimens and the range of soil‐dwelling species captured by the pit‐light is greater than for unbaited pitfall traps. Copyright © 1988, Wiley Blackwell. All rights reserved
