Abstract

We design green TDM-WDM hybrid PON networks to satisfy the increasing demand on broadband access. We develop a novel model and propose an effective strategy to minimize the cost and hence to save the cost of the upgrading PON networks. Mixed integer linear programming model is designed to upgrade the capacity of the networks by optimizing upgrading line-rates, add new wavelengths and the optimal splitter location based on the locations of the ONUs and the OLT. The studied case shows the attractive properties of our effective strategy. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2012.
