Abstract

Science literacy is the ability to understand a concepts and principles of science and have the capacity to think scientifically to make decisions related to developing scientific issues and scientific phenomena that can be applied in everyday life related to science. This study aims to analyze the science literacy achievement of junior high school students on the material of energy in life systems that students had in online learning. Material energy in living systems is closely related to scientific issues and phenomena that exist in everyday life. This research is a preliminary study with 82 students in grade VII, where there are three classes (VII A, VII B, and VII C) in SMP Negeri 1 Pulau Laut Selatan. The instrument used is a test based on science literacy in the aspect of competence. There are three indicators in the aspect of science literacy competence, namely explaining scientific phenomena, evaluating and designing scientific investigations and interpreting scientific data and evidence. Based on the results of the average percentage of each indicator that is equal to 36.67%; 34.25%; and 29.06%. The average result of students' science literacy achievement in the aspect of competence in energy materials in living systems as a whole is 33.32% including in the very low category. The conclusion of this study is that the competence aspect of science literacy skills in class VII students in online learning at SMP Negeri 1 Pulau Laut Selatan is in the very low category with a percentage gain of 33.32 %.
