Abstract

Influenced by postcolonial approaches, new cultural theory and cultural anthropology, transnational and transcultural exchange relationships and movements of forces, ideas, and objects across borders have come into the focus of historiographic research over the past few years. These recent developments in transnational, global, and transfer history (Transfergeschichte) have produced new methodological approaches (such as the concept of cultural transfer, shared or entangled history, histoire croisée) as extensions or alternatives to the traditional international comparative history. The author takes a closer look at those approaches open to a transnational research perspective and shows what inspiration and ideas the new historiographical approaches can provide for exploring the transnational and transcultural dimensions in the field of history of education.
