Abstract

The dynamic viscosity of dilute aqueous solutions of the ionic liquid 1-butyl-3-methyl imidazolium chloride ([Bmim+][Cl-]) in the temperature range of 283.15 to 318.15 K at atmospheric pressure 0.10 MPa was determined. For this an automatic Microviscosimeter Anton Paar (AMVn) was employed. The coefficients of viscosity A, B and D were evaluated, and it was found that long range forces of electrostatic nature between the ionic species [Bmim+] and [Cl-] dominate the viscosimetric behavior of the system [Bmim+] + [Cl-] + water, at all temperatures. The activation parameters of viscous flow ΔG≠, ΔH≠ and ΔS≠ were also analyzed and it was found that viscous flow process was endothermic and showed a predominance of the ion-ion interactions.
