Abstract

This article reports on the perception of 126 students on the use of self-regulation strategies to study. They studied in math and science area of a secluded private Minas Gerais college, aged between 17 and 48 years, and 81% were male. The Competence Scale in Study (ECE-C & T) was used to assess the students' perception about strategic behavior of planning, monitoring and self-evaluation. The students self-regulated their learning and the planning of study strategies are the most used. Women used more planning strategies than men and there was no statistically significant difference between the math and science courses and age groups. It was found that, although the participants reveal they use self-regulatory strategies, these are often geared more for planning the study that indicates the need for greater use of monitoring strategies and self-assessment for competent study.
