Abstract

The proliferation of mobile smart device with multimedia capabilities accelerates the IP-based live video streaming or video on demand (VoD) in the wireless networks. In addition, the IEEE 802.11 standard wireless networks have been developing to handle glowing demands of new applications like video streaming. Mobile peer to peer (P2P) streaming architecture has been considered as a promising way to distribute media streams over the wireless networks because of its scalability and efficiency. In the IEEE 802.11 wireless network, the AP or node handles packets stored in the queue in the same way. Therefore, this operation causes the performance degradation of mobile P2P streaming. In this paper, we investigate the effect of overlay topology on the overall throughput and propose the adaptive bandwidth allocation mechanism for mobile P2P streaming system. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2014.
