Cis-[PtCl2(EtCN)2] thermally isomerizes to trans-[PtCl2(C2H5CN)2] at 110-115°. The structures of both isomers were detd. by x-ray crystallog. Whereas the Pt-N distances are not significantly different in the 2 isomers, the Pt-Cl distances in the cis-compd., 2.263(5) Å, are smaller than in the trans-compd., 2.285(5) Å, which most probably is due to a larger trans influence of Cl as compared to N.
