Abstract

The decisions taken at European Union level influence the lives of more than 500 million inhabitants of the Member States. Therefore, as European citizens we all should be interested in the decision-making procedures especially that, as shown in the European Treaties, the citizens have the right to participate directly in the democratic life of the Union, including by a request to the European Commission to make a legislative proposal. Consequently, this chapter is dealing with developments in decision-making process within European Union, the aim being to raise public awareness on the way in which the European legislation is adopted and also to clarify some principles, theories and technical issues regarding decision-making process within the European Union system.
