Abstract

Introduction: The first fuel cell has been demonstrated by Sir William Grove in 1839. More than 170 years later, fuel cells are still considered an innovative and emerging technology, although they have already proven their possibilities and advantages in a considerable number of terrestrial demonstration and early commercial applications as well as a number of successful space missions flown since the 1960s.
