Abstract

The second stage of the Cirata hydroelectric project is now under way in Indonesia. The plant will provide 500 MW of additional generating capacity for the grid of West Java. The four new Francis units will be installed in one of the world's largest underground powerhouses. Design features of the turbines and related equipment, and in particular technical changes introduced based on experience with the first stage units, are discussed here.
