Abstract

This report describes the surface properties of a lead-tin alloy with seventy weight percent lead. The equilibrium properties of clean surfaces are characterized for temperatures up to the bulk liquidus line. These results are discussed in the context of a theory of the variation of alloy surface composition during melting. We also studied the effects of ion bombardment and previous thermal history on the approach to equilibrium.
