Abstract

A rapid procedure for extraction and purification of fat from 1.0 ml milk is described. It involves freeze-drying, extraction with a chloroform-methanol solvent, and eventual microfiltration through a teflon microfilter. Results expressed as grams of fat/100 ml milk from 437 samples agreed with milk fat content as measured by the Babcock procedure with an accuracy of 99.0%. © 1981, American Dairy Science Association.
