Abstract

The brain metabolism results in a vast heat production. In addition to the deliverance of nutrients and oxygen and the drainage of waste products such as CO2, the very high cerebral blood flow (CBF) also acts as a heat sink, resulting in an equalisation of the temperature between brain and body.
