Abstract

For many years, the right to social security has received little attention in human rights work. However, at the latest since the adoption of the Social Protection Floor Recommendation by the International Labour Organization and the inclusion of social protection goals in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, it has become clear what important functions this human right fulfils in the global fight against poverty. This article provides an overview of the relevant international legal framework, the most important principles of the human rights approach and its impact on the financing of social protection systems.
