Abstract

Power grids are considered to be the backbone of modern society. This grid, however, has remained unchanged over many decades and is collapsing. Blackouts, outages are becoming inevitable and the demand for electricity has been exceeding the supply implying a significant risk of system wide failures. Hence, monitoring the grid operations and determining mechanisms to prevent the collapsing scenario are the requirement of the hour. In this paper, we focus on monitoring the frequency component of the power grid. Fluctuations in the frequency parameter can cause catastrophic scenario. To prevent this, in this paper, we have proposed a mechanism of variance monitoring to determine the frequency fluctuations and later on apply the load distribution mechanism to redistribute the load of the faulted node through a combination of Intentional Removal (IR) and average distance between the nodes.
