The early recognition, diagnosis and appropriate management of oral epithelial dysplasia is essential as an appreciable proportion of these lesions develop into frank malignancies. Being commonly encountered in day to day practice, the clinician should be well versed on the contemporary literature and controversies surrounding the pathogenesis, pathological behavior, diagnostic armamentarium, and management options available for these lesions. Patient outcomes will undoubtedly be better if these precancerous lesions are recognized early, managed appropriately, and surveilled adequately. In-depth discussion of oral epithelial dysplasia will be presented in this chapter.
