Teachers and Teacher Education

Abstract

This chapter provides description of both the teaching corps and developments in teacher education and training. It focuses mainly on the area of responsibility of the Department of Teacher Education (DTE), i.e., teachers from preschool through upper secondary general education. Chapter 5 covers the professional preparation of teachers for technical and vocational education and training (TVET). Chapter 6 covers the professional preparation of teachers for non-formal education and lifelong learning. Chapter 8 covers post-secondary and higher education but makes only passing reference to general teacher education. For an overview of the education system in Laos, see Chap. 1.
