Abstract

In the 20th death anniversary of French sociologist Pierre Bourdieu, this text discusses two aspects of his work that significantly advanced knowledge, but now demand an update related to the educational social world, considering its transformations in the last decades. The aspects are: the thesis about the relation between cultural capital and school success, particularly the hypothesis of an osmotic transmission—from parents to children—of this type of social advantage; the thesis of causality of the probable, developed through the notion of internalization of objective possibilities, as a hypothesis to understand how individuals build their aspirations and projects.
