Minimally invasive closed reduction and internal fixation of calcaneal fractures

Abstract

Calcaneal fractures are common and continue to result is significant loss of time and function. There is increasing evidence that a large subset of calcaneal fractures can be treated with percutaneous or minimally invasive techniques. These less morbidity with minimally invasive techniques and it could be done without having to wait for the swelling and soft tissues to recover. Early treatment allows for much easier reduction techniques compared to waiting two or three weeks for the soft tissues to recover. This chapter will discuss the surgical approach and discuss the management of these complicated fractures.
