Abstract

Cyclical vomiting syndrome (CVS) is a childhood syndrome related to migraine with specific clinical characteristics and similar prognosis and response to treatment as childhood migraine. Patients experience recurrent stereotypical episodes of intense nausea and vomiting lasting between 2 and 72 h interspaced by periods of 6-8 weeks of full return to normal health. CVS affects young children with peak age of onset around 5 years. As the child grows older, headache becomes a prominent feature of the episodes typical of migraine. Some children continue to suffer CVS episodes well into adult life.
