Abstract

Objective: to evaluate the influence of basic care coverage in the municipalities of Santa Catarina and its effects on coping with COVID-19. Method: observational, and ecological study conducted in 2020. The number of people infected by COVID-19, mortality rate, lethality rate and percentage of Primary Health Care coverage were evaluated. Results: the results showed that the Grande Oeste and Vale do Itajaí macroregions had the best results in terms of greater coverage of these health services and lower mortality and lethality due to COVID-19. The South and Planalto Norte and Northeast macroregions had worse results regarding the investigated indicators. This may be the result of municipal policies related to the pandemic, since the municipalities had autonomy in decisions related to prevention and control measures, based on state determinations. Conclusion: the municipalities with the best AB coverage were able to have lower rates of lethality and mortality due to COVID-19. (English) [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
