Abstract

Since they first appeared in 1960, lasers as a light source have established themselves in a growing number of applications in industry and in everyday life. Laser light differs from other light sources, such as light bulbs or neon lamps, by its very narrow spectral bandwith as well as its high temporal and spatial stability and consistency. © 2009 Springer Berlin Heidelberg.
