Abstract

Pre-wetted sand shows (quasi)underwater superoleophobicity and ultralow oil-adhesion in water medium based on its strong water absorbing ability. A pre-wetted sand layer is successfully applied for oil-water separation and shows extremely high separation efficiency and separation capacity. This method for separating oil and water is simple, almost free of cost, green, and very efficient.
