Abstract

In an Internal combustion engine muffler or a silencer (muffler is an American word whereas silencer is used in British English; both meaning the same) is used for decreasing noise. The exhaust gas at high temperature produces high sound, a part of automotive system which acts as a noise deadening device. Today no Exhaust systems in an automobile come without a muffler. The loudness of sound is reduced by this acoustic device. These devices were invented to reduce the level of noise pollution that was increasing with the increase in number of vehicles on the road and with increase in the industrial demand the noise pollution was on very high note. These devices were introduced as strict emission regulations were brought in at all parts of the world regarding these noise pollutions. Presently review has focused on different types of mufflers, defects without mufflers; noise pollution and how numerical analysis is covered. By the research it has been analyzed the uses and the way of analysis done on a muffler.
