Abstract

This 474-page book is Volume 69 of the series on progress in botany. There are 18 individually authored chapters organized into three sections including topics on genetics, physiology, systematics and ecological aspects. The topics include review on ecophysiology, migrations between different levels of scaling, genetics of variability of recombination rates in higher plants, functional markers in resistance breeding, extranuclear inheritance, plastid-nuclear cooperation in photosystem I assembly in photosynthetic eukaryotes, molecular cell biology of leaf senescence. The other topics include application of laser-assisted microdissection for tissue and cell-specific analysis of RNA, proteins and metabolites, plasma membrane redox systems, lipid rafts and protein assemblies, subcellular sites of environmental sensing, oxidative stress and salt tolerance in crassulacean acid metabolism, physiology of parasitic plants, economy and ecology, Bayesian data-model integration in plant physiological and ecosystem ecology, quaternary palaeoecology of Africa and its surroundings and the application of novel optical sensors in experimental plant ecology, recent developments in indirect defence, functional differences in soil water pools and plant herbivore interactions at the forest edge. The text is written in English. Users of this book will include researchers and students in plant ecology and physiology.
