Abstract

Phenotypic and pedigree recording of livestock remains a challenge in developing countries with informal agricultural sectors. Automated technologies would assist commercial farmers to become more effcient and productive, and to make full use of genomics. Farmers will beneft from the use of automated technologies in terms of improved animal welfare and economic sustainability in resource-poor areas.
