Minimally invasive ORIF of calcaneal fractures

Abstract

Calcaneal fracture fixation can be performed using multiple approaches, methods, and implants. There is no consensus regarding the best approach or method of fixation. Moreover, the end result of calcaneal fractures is unsatisfactory in many cases. Some authors have questioned the necessity of operative intervention, arguing that the risk of surgery may not exceed the benefit it may provide [1]. A procedure that reduces the risk while still providing a benefit over nonoperative treatment would appear to be a reasonable compromise.
