Ectropion

Abstract

Eyelid ectropion is present when the lid margin is displaced outward from the ocular surface lid margin. This eyelid malposition is commonly encountered in clinical practice and generally affects the lower eyelid. The etiologies of eyelid ectropion include involutional, cicatricial, paralytic, mechanical, and congenital disorders; however, multifactorial causes are frequently present. Eyelid retraction describes inferior displacement of the eyelid margin with the development of inferior scleral show. While ectropion and retraction can both be present, retraction differs from ectropion in that the lid margin remains approximated to the globe.
