A new piriform Stellettidae Cryptosyringa membranophila gen. et sp. nov. is described. Groups of 3 to 10 sponge individuals live in membranous bags, secreted by an unknown organism within small cavities burrowed into the walls of dark caves of Jamaican coral reefs. The excurrent openings are grouped together in a bleb which protrudes from the bag. The body of the sponge and the apical inhalant zone are within the bag.
