Abstract

Integrative literature review study of guidelines for hospital discharge of children with a stoma. The goal was to identify existing publications on guidelines given by nurses to caregivers of children discharged with a stoma. Eighteen national reports published between the years 1978 and 2011 were obtained through the specialist nursing area of the Brazilian Virtual Health Library and Bibliographic database. The data show that there are no specific guidelines on discharge of children with a stoma, despite the term stoma being addressed in 27.7% of articles, but that nurses are concerned with the need for preparation of the family in the hospital, this issue being the subject of 61.1% of the publications. The data show that hospital discharge is part of nursing practice, but there are few studies on both the specificity and depth of guidelines provided by the nurses to families of children with a stoma.
